PECOViSiA
Smart Technologies for the Management of the Mirandese Breed
About
Objective
Development of a technological solution based on computer vision and artificial intelligence, integrated into a web platform and a mobile app, enabling the identification and estimation of animals’ live weight in a non-intrusive manner.
Find out about the components of the solution >
Creation of animal datasets – 2D, 3D and upper body and muzzle;
Development of an intelligent system for detecting the live weight of animals in extensive farming systems;
Development of an intelligent biometric system for animal identification;
Smart animal management system – Web portal;
Smart livestock management system – Mobile app.
Promoters
Geodouro
Lead Project Manager responsible for investigating and defining the dataset and web solution components, developing these components, and integrating the various modules that will form PECOViSiA. They will also be responsible for project management and coordination, and for drawing up the solution’s business plan, in collaboration with the other project managers.
IPB
Co-Principal Investigator who will contribute to the project’s scientific research, as well as to the technological development of PECOViSiA, specifically in the research and development of AI, computer vision and machine learning algorithms for the identification and weighing of animals, as well as the creation of a model to improve the quality of the Mirandesa breed. They will also be responsible for organising and participating in promotional activities and events for the project, with a focus on publicising and disseminating the technical and scientific results.
MoreCOLAB
Co-Promoter who will contribute to the project’s scientific research, as well as to the technological development of PECOViSiA, specifically in the study and development of mobile components and a platform for weighing and monitoring breed quality, whilst also leading the installation of the pilot scheme. They will also be responsible for organising and participating in promotional activities and events for the project, with a focus on publicising and disseminating the technical and scientific results.
AGROPEMA
Co-Promoter who will contribute to the research and specification of the solution, as well as to its validation in a real-world environment, by carrying out various tests throughout the project’s development phase, thereby contributing to the final validation of the entire system, whilst also participating in the drafting of the solution’s business plan.
ACBMR
Co-Promoter who will contribute to the research and specification of the solution, to the collection of images for the creation of datasets, and to the validation of the solution in a real-world environment, by carrying out various tests throughout the project’s development phase, and by identifying agricultural holdings that will participate in the project from the outset, thereby contributing to the final validation of the entire system. They will also be responsible for organising and taking part in promotional activities and events for the project, with a focus on publicising and disseminating the project’s results to end-users.

DownloadKick-off Meeting
The kick-off meeting took place on 8 January 2026 at Geodouro’s premises in Lamego. It was attended by all the partners: Geodouro, IPB, MoreCOLAB and AGROPEMA.
Follow-up Meeting
An in-person follow-up meeting was held on 3 July 2026 in Miranda do Douro. The meeting was attended by all the partners – Geodouro, IPB, MoreCOLAB and AGROPEMA – and provided an opportunity to take stock of the situation and visit the cattle farm where real-world trials were being carried out.
